Kindle Features

The Library is pleased to make Kindle e-readers available to our students, faculty and staff. Kindles are easy to use and offer a number of useful features including:

  • Most Advanced E-Ink Display - delivers clear, crisp text and images that you can read without eye strain. Reads like real paper, with no glare

  • Lightweight - only 8.5 ounces and 1/3 of an inch thin, it's lighter than a paperback and thinner than a magazine

  • Ample Storage - a single Kindle can store up to 3,500 books

  • Long Battery Life - a single charge lasts up to 2 months with wireless off, based on a half-hour of daily reading time

  • Built in dictionary - includes The New Oxford American Dictionary with over 250,000 entries and definitions for free. Simply move the cursor to the word you want to know about and the definition will automatically display at the bottom of the screen

  • Read to Me - can read English-language content out loud to you unless the book's rights holder made the feature unavailable. You can switch back and forth between reading and listening, and your spot is automatically saved. Pages automatically turn while the content is being read, so you can listen hands-free. Choose male or female voice which can be sped up or slowed down to suit your preference

  • Real Page Numbers - available on tens of thousands of most popular Kindle books that have matching print editions. Page numbers are displayed when you push the menu button

  • Adjustable Text Sizes and Font Choices - increase the text size of your favorite book with the push of a button. If your eyes tire, simply increase the font size and continue reading comfortably. Kindle Keyboard also has three font styles to choose from – all optimized to provide the best reading experience
